So, I suggest as much audiation as possible, which can be practiced as much away from the keys as in 2.com› ► ► ► Bill Hilton Piano Pdf To improvise and play jazz piano well, you need to be able to hear in your head what you are going to play (to some degree), which is something many classical pianist lack completely, even if they are relatively advanced. A passive relationship is accepted by the pianist, who then works to shape the sound after the fact. After a key is played, the sound is there, no more shaping can occur. Pre hearing of some kind is necessary to play a violin or sing, but pianists can become very good without much ability in that area because they only need to press a key. The big problem most classical pianists have with jazz is pre-hearing, or audiation. I haven't looked at BH's system, but lead sheets and comping sounds like jazz. I'm afraid my classical training has turned me into a robot that needs someone telling me exactly what to do. It seems like his only recommendation is to practice a lot and in different keys.but what I am actually supposed to do. One problem I'm having is I'm not sure how to learn this stuff. I'm currently working through 'How to Really Play the Piano' by Bill Hilton and it's really good. I've been playing classical music for about 6 years now and really want to transition to learning music theory, comping, playing lead sheets, and solo arrangements.
